![]() 2022: fully redesigned with updated styling, more interior space, more standard features and new performance-focused Type S trim. Here are the key changes for the Acura MDX over the last few years: ![]() There are no major differences between the 20 MDX models. Upper-tier versions of some mainstream midsize SUVs, such as the rugged Jeep Grand Cherokee L and sporty Mazda CX-90, are great vehicles and serve as compelling alternatives to the MDX.įind a 2024 Acura MDX for sale near you »Ģ023 vs. The Genesis GV80 is similarly priced and offers a slightly more posh interior and a slew of standard amenities, but the MDX offers better fuel efficiency. If you're willing to pay more, the Mercedes-Benz GLE and BMW X5 provide better overall performance, nicer interiors and more upscale amenities than the Acura. There are a lot of great options in this competitive class, though. The MDX is definitely worth checking out if you want an upmarket and practical luxury midsize SUV with a reasonable base price, lots of standard features and composed handling. The Acura also suffers from frustrating infotainment controls. The MDX falters in terms of ride quality, which critics say is either too firm or too soft, and the mushy brakes don't inspire confidence. The optional turbocharged V6 is plenty powerful, and both engines get good gas mileage. The base engine is adequate, if unexciting, and handling is surprisingly engaging for such a big vehicle. The front seats are remarkably comfy, and the second row, while not as plush, has enough space for adults. It comes loaded with standard tech, comfort and driver-assistance features, and the interior is spacious and upscale. Ultimately, I prefer the more well-rounded Genesis GV80 and equally-as-comfortable Lexus RX 350. On the road, the MDX is decent, with a strong engine and stable handling, but it can't compare to the agility of the Mercedes-Benz GLE. It's difficult to adjust settings with it, especially when driving, and even once I got used to it, I found the pad temperamental and often unresponsive. The MDX's biggest flaw is the touchpad that controls many infotainment functions. ![]() I wouldn't want to spend five minutes in the cramped third row, though that complaint is common to many three-row SUVs. I also loved the versatility of the removable second-row middle seat, which allows for more passenger room and easier access to the third row. Cargo space is plentiful and useful, especially with the "secret" storage area under the rear cargo floor. On the plus side, the first two rows are spacious and comfortable. Unfortunately, that made its flaws that much more frustrating. I found a lot to like about the Acura MDX during my week with the range-topping Type S with Advance Package.
